ELT Install

Initially, I cut a vertical hole for the ELT Remote in the instrument panel out of the way near the radio, but still visible to the pilot while flying. I used small nyloc nuts to prevent the 440 screws from coming out of the panel due to vibration. I cut the main hole with a Dremel driving a small carbide wheel and cleaned up with a reamer. The small holes for the mounting screws were drilled conventionally with a 1/8 inch drill.

Before beginning the second day's effort, I removed the ELT Remote from the instrument panel and installed both the ELT Placard and a PX28L Duracell battery before replacing it. I also installed a CR2 Duracell battery in the audio alert indicator and noted the expiration dates of both batteries in the ELT manual. This kept me from accidentally installing either without the batteries.

ELT Transmitter View 1: After attaching a quarter inch diameter loop of 0.040 inch thick Al6061-T6 sheet with a 3/16 inch rivet, I attached the ELT to the frame using four McMaster Carr 6614K58 (MS3367-6) cable ties each rated to 120 lbs made with a stainless steel locking mechanism and UV-Resistant plastic. This should provide more than adequate fastening to the frame. Note the ELT is aligned to the direction of normal flight.
ELT Transmitter View 2: Capped the ELT GPS connector for the time being and cable tied to the frame along with the wiring to the audio alert indicator and the forward remote mounted in the instrument panel.
Audio Alert Indicator: Mounted audio alert indicator under dash on right side by wiring box. Cable tied in place with using three MCMaster Carr 6614K53 (MS3367-1) cable ties each rated to 50 lbs made with a stainless steel locking mechanism and UV-Resistant plastic
